Pay Fidya
Fidya only applies to those who are permanently unable to fast in Ramadhan due to old age or a chronic illness with no hope of recovery. For breastfeeding and pregnancy, qadha (making up the fast) must be done if missed due to the mother’s health, but if missed for the baby’s well-being, both qadha and fidya are required. Fidya can also be given on behalf of a deceased person who had missed fasts and was unable to make them up.
Fidya is set at NZD$1 per day, approved by the Maunatul Islam New Zealand Ulama Board.
